More Rain
We had a nice thunderstorm this morning raising the rain total to 2.6 inches. Now it is too humid to go out so I am scrubbing toilets.

Beryl
We got 1.9 inches of rain and the temps are mercifully cooler. This will help the trees we just planted.

I would just like to thank Dr. Amy Richter an Episcopal priestess at St. Anne's Parish in Annapolis MD. She paraded about in a bikini at a body building competetion and blogged about it. That just drives members out of the Episcopal Church faster. All other denominations, especially conservative ones, appreciate your efforts, Amy.
Say...wasn't Maryland the location where the entire Episcopal Convent of nuns converted to Catholocism en masse? Yes, yes it was. Thank God, I'm not Episcopalian anymore.

Happy Mothers Day
So far today I have cooked and put to freezer 2 batches of green and wax beans.
I am roasting zucchini, tomatoes, red onions, yellow onions, eggplant, red potatoes, garlic, and rosemary, oregano and basil. OMG I just realized I forgot the bell peppers...must go add those quick!
Will serve them over spaghetti for supper. Yum.
Had an early wake up call thanks to Mother Mouse...but Plant Daddy and I gave her some "blue blocks" (poison) to eat for her Mother's Day Feast. Die Mouse Die! Get outta my attic.
Yesterday we hauled in a ton of squash and beans from the garden. Haven't even addressed the blackberries, blueberries and strawberries yet!

Blogger
This blog will end the same way it started 9 years ago...with me bitching about Blogger. If you are visiting using Internet Explorer, you might see a video link here. I didn't post any such thing. Click at your own risk. Blogger is just annoying.
Blackberry Pear Jam
Several weeks ago Publix had Bartlett pears on sale for .99 a pound.
Plant Daddy scored a ton of ‘em.
We ate pears till we were sick of pears.
Then yesterday I discovered 4 pears in the back of the fridge that had escaped the feeding frenzy.
What to do? What to do?
They were way too ripe for salad..so…
I added fresh picked blackberries and made jam!
I ran the berries through a sieve to take out the seeds and poured the juice over the chopped pears. When the pears cooked a bit and were really soft, I hit them with the stir stick and blenderized them. It kinda looked like purple applesauce at this point.
I added Sure Jel and Sugar and proceeded with the jelly making and a miracle occurred.
Those pears and blackberries played well with each other and the final result was the finest jam I had ever made in my life.
It was ruby red and the gel was perfect. The taste is right down the middle…not too pear sweet and not too blackberry tart.
We were going to save it for Thanksgiving…to use as a substitute for cranberry…but we tore into one jar to eat tonight with our Chicken Satay Simmer sauce dinner. Amazing.

Yippy Skippy Scorpion
I decided to change the tablecloth on the table by the back door today. I am always careful as I remove the dirty cloth because I have, in the past, laundered lizards and large insects by mistake.
So this morning I was inching along, opening the folds of fabric carefully and a baby lizard came running toward me. It was so cute!
Wait…lizards usually run AWAY from me…
OMG! It was not a small lizard, it was a large scorpion.
It’s tail was erect. He/She/it was out to get me!
I got the Raid spray.
Dispatched.
Ahhhh.
Safety reigns.
PD got popped by a bee in the garden last night.
In the exact same garden location where I had one fly up under my shorts and into my personal space and sting me last year. He got popped in the thigh. One quick spray with MediQuick and he was good to go.

Zucchinni News
Since I got home from the writers conference, I have spent every minute in the kitchen. I am using every recipe I have to try and deal with all the zucchinni that's come in at once. But I'm happy. I know that come November, I can go out to the freezer and find yummy summer squash for my plate! Happiness.

Blogger Buzz
Up at the Tallahassee Writers Association Conference, I was not the only one unhappy with the new and improved Blogger. One of the speakers even railed about it in the middle of her talk. A lot of folks have abandonded this site and moved on. I am still hanging on by a thread till October at least.

Tallahassee Writers Contest
Last year TWA sponsored a "Worst Opening Line Contest".
It had to be 100 words or less, one sentence, and it had to be BAD.
Winner got a free supper at the banquet.
I took a second last year, no free soup for me.
So I was ready this year. But, alas...they didn't run the competetion this time.
So here for your enjoyment is my really bad 98 word opening line...

Sanjay stomped the clutch of the 1967 Chevelle he’d inherited from his father (a man always enamored of this gas-guzzling, disobedient, blue, American road hog); slammed the beastly transmission into reverse, bucking it backwards up the driveway like a mechanical bull charging aluminum trashcan targets; and when he, who had wished for an eco-friendly, small, electric car for his 16th birthday yesterday, finally parked, shoved the creaky, squeaky, heavy, drivers’ side door open, and stepped out, he looked down to see the legs of his next door neighbor, Mrs. Gladys Williams, crumpled beneath the massive, front, white-walled tires.

Another Computer Virus
Just a reminder that if you get an email from any of my addresses and it has no message but contains a link...DO NOT OPEN IT. Plant Daddy's sister got hacked and virused yesterday, so despite our care, we might have the virus too. Just be wary!
